Party school?

Is Michigan considered to be a huge party school?

When I compare it to Penn State, I think the party scene at UM is a joke.

No...........

No!!!!!!!!!!!! You can likely find a party most any time, but most partying occurs on the weekends and partying is even sparse on the weekends during periods leading up to testing (mid-terms, finals, etc.).

^^ I'm surprised.

A lot of hardcore partying at PSU occured during finals week.

mightynick, you haven't even been to umich yet.. haha.

just walk on south u. during the night on weekends, week before finals or finals week, and even welcome week. that should give you a good idea.

But compared to other top schools, I wouldn't call Michigan a party school.

If you really need to let off some steam, you can always head up to east lansing and burn a couch.

oh MSU... great memories... :D

U-M... not as bad.. as I would've thought.

Every school has partying almost every night of the week, but it doesn't make it a "party school."

I think the term is way overused and has absurd connotations. UNC and Wisconsin are considered "party schools" but would anyone doubt their academic quality? Ditto viz MSU? ... MIT was once written up as a party school because of students' propensity to engage in high profile pranks (esp against neighbor Harvard) and the fact, sadly, a student or 2 drunk themselves to death (if it can happen at MIT, it can happen anywhere)... That's why I think the whole party-school thing is a crock.

MIT is notoriously a party school. Other tech schools have sentences like, "We might not party as hard as MIT, but..." in their brochures. My friends all says it's absolutely crazy, especially at the beginning of the school year.

Yes, Christine, but everybody knows the strong implication regarding party schools is that they are weak academic schools... and we know classifying MIT, among others, as such is beyond absurdity.

Well, I wasn't arguing that being a party school means that it's a weak academic school, but rather that is is both classified as a big party school and an academically strong school. Michigan, however, good or bad, is not as big on the party scene, although it is still a college. No one was saying that being a big party school means being a weak academic school.

Who thinks parties are stupid?

why would parties be stupid? I mean there are some that are like what the heck..but i mean parties are fun!!!!!!!

if you think parties are stupid, that means you haven't partied enough.

or went to some horrible parties with a guy-girl ratio of 10 to 1.

People who party excessively are stupid. Even the smartest people can really screw up their GPAs by partying too much. Be disciplined... and don't get carried away with it.

the_aspirant... not knowing anything else about you, but for your last comment, your attitude seems high schoolish.

high schoolish? -_- any guy can agree that parties aren't so great when it's all guys.

there is nothing wrong with partying. it's a good way to get to know people and just relax to blow off steam from school. people who don't party seem to judge partiers too much.

anhydrosis2000... not knowing anything else about you, but for YOUR last comment, your attitude seems uptight.

:]

No, its just the whole drinking alochol (which tastes terrible btw) to get completely wasted and hooking up aspect of it that is so stupid.

This is a typical high schoolish/college freshman quote. You can get to know people many other ways. How many people do you remember the next day when you've partied really hard the night before? As for relaxing and blowing off steam - well, you seem like the "live for the moment" person. In the long run, partying every weekend will hurt your GPA. I've seen that happen to many people my freshman year.

I'm not saying you shouldn't party, ever. It just shouldn't be the primary aspect of your social life, which is the case at most colleges.
