party school

I've heard that UVA is a pretty fun place to be around. Great academics and you can have a real good time. How's the outings in Charlottesvile. Does UVA have some good looking girls? haha

UVA is a very fun place to go to school, especially when compared to other similarly ranked institutions. No, it is not a party school, but there certainly is a diverse array of social outlets, which may or may not be party-oriented. With little effort, one can a fairly vibrant social life. Most students find that there's plenty to do in C'ville (unless they're from a city or very suburban area.) Does UVA have some good looking girls? No. UVA has a great many good looking girls ;) .

Students study hard Mon-Thurs, and then they party hard on the weekends----every weekend.

yeah dude, remember the motto:WORK HARD PLAY HARDER

Don't generalize UVA's student body, you have your frat types, who party on the week/weekend, you got those people that work and party during the weekend that get an average GPA, you got those that work more than party, they usually do above average and those that only work and usually perform best academically. Check out Clemons on a saturday night, it will be pretty full.

I don't know, wmrocks...I know some people who party very frequently and have ridiculous GPA's in hard majors. It depends on the person.

I'm 8th in my class and I only party on Saturdays.

wmrocks, how can you be 8th in your class when you just transferred to UVa this year and thus have no grades?

pwn3d .

UVa becomes a party school during Friday and saturday nights - sometimes also on Thursday nights esp for those who live in old dorms. Many, if not A LOT, of the girls here are good-looking. The girls here however are soooooo preppy as if they're almost trying to literally cry out "I am so preppy, look at me!!!"

The work load, I must warn all of you, is heavy. Don't assume that everyone parties a lot and therefore has little work to do. During the weekdays, a lot of us have plenty of work to do - whether it be reading, homework, or writing up a paper. So the motto stands as "Work Hard, party hard."

I will be glad to answer you any questions you may have about UVa.

at W&M i meant, not at UVA...duh

I am not familiar with your posts, but I was curious as to why you'd give up your rank of 8th at William and Mary to go to UVa. Is it just me, or wouldn't being ranked that high at WM be your ticket into pretty much any grad school?

wmrocks, where the hell did you get that number from?

thursday nights are best night of the week for those in the old dorms - friday and saturday are afterthoughts.

wmrocks: I have been reading your posts and noticed that you did attend W&M and now you go to UVA? I also read that you had a 3.8 and took all IB classes and was rejected the first go around at UVA? I presume the 3.8 gpa was unweighted, correct?

If this is the case, I am really in trouble because I too am a full IB diploma candidate with a 4.5 weighted gpa, but only about a 3.7 unweighted gpa. So - no need applying to either schools? My SATs are 1260 (m & v). I have great ECs, but with those stats, is it even going to matter?

worldshopper, apply to both schools. You've got a great shot.

Thanks cavalier302 -- but reading this message board makes me feel like I don't have a chance at all to either school.

If you love the school and have a chance, apply - what happens afterward should be worried about then. UVa tends to look for very specific things in their students that goes beyond academics. You can't break UVa down to SAT scores and GPAs (and that is what makes the UVa community so great).

worldshopper, APPLY. I had lower SAT scores than you and I did IB Diploma - and I got in. Focus on writing honest, passionate essays and try and get great recommendations.

Thanks tenniscraze for the inspiration. I do have some really great things to talk about in my essays, I just have to make sure I properly convey my thoughts. I certainly have some great qualities to offer (as demonstrated by what I have done and accomplished) -- not trying to brag or anything. My recs should be really good. My goal is to attend a school that values such things as maturity, passion, compassion and comittment. You know, the things that cannot be measured by SAT scores, although I am taking the SATs again. I realize that the best written essay and the best ECs will not make up for lackluster SAT scores; but I am hoping they like the total package I have to offer. Thanks again!
