Would most likely rush and hoping to live on North Campus. What is the social/party scene like and how does it compare to other top schools?
On weekends, there is a fairly strong party scene. Most of which are in North campus, but there are a lot of off campus parties as well. The thing about NU is that it has the academics of an Ivy League school and the atmosphere and scene of a BIG10 school. Best of both worlds.
Ummm… I’m not super into the party scene but I know almost no one who would say we have the atmosphere and scene of a BIG10 school. We’re fairly tame. It’s a ton of nerds who didn’t party in high school suddenly free from their parents trying to have fun. It’s not as good as other schools.
Now that I am actually a student here, I 100% stand by my previous statement.

This is absolutely true. The parties at NU don’t compare to the parties at state schools but a lot of people don’t care… they all end around 2 or 3 am (which is not late) and it’s not uncommon to find drunk people talking about their major or other ish like that, which might be your cup of tea. The party scene at NU is not terrible, but you don’t want to kid yourself going into it. It also helps to be a girl because winter quarter is when all of the frats slow down their parties and recruitment efforts, as that’s when they start doing ish with their pledges, so if you’re a guy trying to make the frat parties your social life good luck with that after fall quarter (ladies are almost always welcome though). But if you’re interested in greek life at NU then this social scene is probably right up your alley.
