Yeah they do. It happened to me before. I have to drink a LOT, though, which I never do anymore.

I say that if the drinking age were to be lowered, then the driving age should be lowered, too. But as for a lower drinking age, I’m not sure if that would really help. In Russia the drinking age is 19 (http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/LegalDrinkingAge.html), but I believe alcoholism is very prevalent. Whether this is caused by the Russian culture or by the drinking age is unclear, but perhaps lowering the drinking age would only allow teenagers who have yet to be exposed to the harsh realities of the world to indulge in drinking.

At the same time, though, having the legal drinking age be 21 is ridiculous. The US has the highest legal drinking age, too.

I actually think that the driving age is already too low. 16 year olds already aren’t responsible enough to consider the danger that they are putting themselves and others in. You could argue that many 20 year olds aren’t, either, but high school kids are much more likely to do stupid things in a vehicle in order to gain social cred. and try and look cool than those older. Lowering the driving age would just be crazy.

But at the same time, the drinking age and the driving age should not be too close, or else there will also be the risk of irresponsible, inexperienced drivers drinking and driving. I think the legal drinking age should be lowered to 19, though, I feel that gives enough time for teens to become more experienced drivers.

Other countries have lower drinking ages and those kids are fine. Some cultures drink more than others and that might have something to do with the drinking problems. I really think that if it was legal for younger people to drink, they would have less of a problem of calling their parents for a ride home. No kid wants to get in trouble for being at a party and being wasted, but if it was legal then it wouldn’t be so bad. Of course this will never happen because of the stupid idiots that do crazy **** when they drink.

As far as lowering the driving age, HECK NO. At my HS, we had different parking lots for each grade (except freshman). The sophomore one was crazy because they were all trying to show off and look cool. There were also a ton of wrecked cars.

and yet a reason why I’m against lowering the drinking age.. people are pathetic enough as it is with alcohol

finally partying tonight (it’s been too long)..i’m soo gonna live at school next summer..

partying tonight again too. woo!

Leah, how are the parties at UNC Chapel Hill?

they’re totally fabulous; went to one last night. the nice thing is that there’s something for everyone (frats, smaller house parties, dorm parties, st. anthony hall, clubs and bars on franklin) and there’s ALWAYS something going on–people from state, ECU, etc. always come to chapel hill to party because their own schools pale in comparison. the weekend starts on thursday night. also, there’s definitely tons to do even if you don’t party.

^weekends only start thursdays? at my school they start wednesdays. at my friend’s school there are no weeknights.

haha those are the big going-out nights (when bigger parties are), but you can find something smaller going on pretty much any time, especially tuesdays. or whenever there are basketball games :)

sadly, i go to a nerd school so there are times when i’ll get back at 2AM on a Saturday night and see people in the study lounge working.

I would party with most of the people on this thread, no lie. I can’t believe I’ve been ignoring this thread for so long
kinda late to catch up now.

Last time I partied was Monday night–we started drinking about 6pm, went to our intramural games at 10:15ish, some of us drank through the game (it was uh…lemonade…), then we went back and drank some more. Unfortunately most of us either had class or work early the next morning :(

But on the plus side, we did win our 2 games that night, making us the intramural champs for that sport in Summer Session 1!

I bet most of the action is at the South side of campus, right?

nah, not really. most dorm parties are on south campus, but i tend to party a lot off campus at friends’ apartments or in carrboro. i also hit the frats from time to time, which are technically off campus but really are located like one minute from north or on rosemary.

Most everybody except nobody that’s ever posted in “Chances.” We’ll get Moire all liquored up, drive him out to a gentlemans club and have a good ole time.

I’m staying at Hinton James and I know they’ll be around 700 living in there. Which dorm building tends to be the craziest?

morrison’s probably the most social, but hojo will give you the best “freshman experience.” i lived in ehaus, which is also pretty social, and totally loved it, but i’m definitely moving to north campus next year haha.

leah, I was going to go to UNC-ch, but my current school offered more money. btw tonight is my third day of getting drunk in a row. And I have 730 (class) everyday which I haven’t missed yet. Today was really chill though, just played the guitar with a friend who played the drums and we improved, switched instruments, freestyle rapping, and serenaded girls. all for like 7 hours. Awesome.
