Okay, so I am not a hardcore party guy, but I definitely enjoy some fun on the weekend. I know Rutgers is famous for some big parties, but Freshman year if I am not into the frat scene, and I am obviously not of age to go to a bar, should I be able to find dorm parties? What are the alcohol policies like at RU? Is it easy to get a small group of friends and drink in a dorm? What about at tailgating?

I read somewhere that you are not allowed to have alcohol in the dorms (of course, some kids might find a way to sneak it in, but that's another story). It might be easier to have access to alcohol if you befriend someone who has off-campus housing.

If you decide to drink alcohol in the dorms and you are underage, I would be careful. Perhaps it is not the smartest thing to drink in the dorm just so you can avoid being in trouble.

Tailgating...I have no idea, but I'm sure the whole underage drinking thing is applied too.

I know, crappy answers. But I felt bad since no one responded :o

a lot depends on your RA (resident assistant). they are in charge of making sure no alcohol gets into the dorms and making sure no parties are going on. if they happen to catch you with alcohol, you will have to meet with your campus advisor and your room might be placed under extra supervision.

to answer your question (is it easy for small group...): yes it is. as long as you guys are not obnoxiously loud, you should be fine.

for me, and many other of my friends, it was easy to get alcohol into the building. bringing the alcohol in is not a problem. my friends and i brought in a keg once without a problem. the problem is the noise. keep the noise down and you should be good.

thank you both for the responses.
