I am considering transferring as a Junior to Wesleyan University to study at their music department, and have some questions regarding the social life and drug use on campus.

I won't lie for an instant: Partying is an important part of my college life. I come from Indiana University, which has an incredibly good night life... on weekends, there are typically a dozen huge house parties going on at locations around the perimeter of campus, and the crowds are very mixed. I'm an electronic musician and DJ, and I pretty much live for the weekends because it gives me an opportunity to perform. I maintain a high GPA and have an eagerness for learning (and academia in general), but for me, the weekends are defined by performing my art and having a good time.

I'm a semi-regular marijuana smoker and occasionally delve into psychedelics, and would like to continue this at Wesleyan if I were to transfer.

The campus and academic philosophies of Wesleyan University are absolutely perfect for my academic needs, but I fear that the student social life is very different. Can anybody reassure me of these things, or is it what I hear true - is Wesleyan University's social life very bleak compared to my experiences here in the Big Ten?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance.

DJ who likes academics& assorted herbs? you’ll fit in quite well. as for the partying scene, it sort of depends imo. if you know the who/where, you’ll have no trouble partying every weekend. big events are kind of another story because they don’t happen on EVERY weekend. if you decide to come here, please hold a dance party @ exley every saturday like a couple weekends ago (p.s that was the most ridiculous party that i’ve went to @ wes so far!)

You will not find a dozen huge house parties every weekend at Wes. One some weekends, you might not ever find one. People party, but they tend to be smaller get-togethers. You have to register parties with over a certain amount of people… it’s all kind of a pain. In the frat houses (there are two official ones, and one unofficial one) and Eclectic there are some big parties on certain weekends, but it’s not the main focus of socializing for most people. my 2 cents, anyway.

Wow, I don’t know what rock you all are living under, but there are absolutely big house parties every weekend! Maybe not a dozen, but definitely plenty on both Friday and Saturday nights. Or maybe you’re just frosh and haven’t discovered the world beyond Eclectic and Psi U yet? At any rate, if the OP is as cool a DJ as ze says ze is, ze will have no problems finding out about said parties and being invited to spin at them.

Hey, I’m just trying to point out that it’s really not a big state school. The partying is very, very different at Wes. I’ve found Wesleyan’s night life disappointing… I think I’m allowed to share that opinion.

There are definitely house parties going on every weekend. Probably not a dozen, and not well advertised - and some of them might be a little weird to go to if you don’t know anyone there. But there are a couple of open house parties every weekend, I’d say.

And definitely there are parties looking for good DJs. Alpha Delt just recently had a DJ showcase actually…
