Hola guys. I'm sure the answer to this question is in anther thread but I don't want to go searching. So, if you guys can please forgive my lazyness and answer, I would really appreciate it.

I was wondering where Freshman and Sophomores party at Princeton. Also, how often do they party? I know that the eating clubs have parties (or I've heard). Are these every week or just once-a-month things?

After visiting, I've really started to like Princeton. Yale is my first choice at the moment, partly because I feel (just from the general feel of campus) that Yalies have more fun than Princetonians (?). But, I cannot deny that I would LOVE to be taught by masterminds like Toni Morrison and Cornel West. Seeing that the social atmosphere is one of my deciding factors, I want to know if it's active. Thanks a lot in advance guys!

I would say for sure that Princeton has better social life than Yale - it's one of the biggest reasons I didn't apply to Yale.

While the Clubs have an undeserved reputation for being exclusive, in reality there will be a club you can get into and party every night of the week as a freshman or sophomore. And most freshman/sophomores take advantage of this opportunity frequently.

have u been or are you planning to go to the Princeton Preview days?? i think going to those will definitely change your current view on princeton. i stayed with freshmen and they KNOW how to party. there are soo many things you can do. i really like the surrounding little town as well, so much better than venturing into new haven shudders....
and when you have a free weekend at pton, you can always take an hour-long train ride to NYC or Phili.

i think Princeton has unparalleled undergrad program.

I think the clubs actually really don't make the social scene exclusive, but really open it up to everyone. Everyone knows where the partying is going down, and often you just need your Princeton ID card to get in. Also, room parties are not uncommon.

Thursday and Saturday are the standard party nights at the eating clubs. Freshmen and sophomores can party at the clubs every weekend if they want.

Well, I'm a junior so Princeton Preview days are immature at the moment. I just wanted to get a feel before I started to apply. When I visited, I realized that MANY of my stereotypes of Princeton were wrong. I just didn't get the feel that there was a social scene. It could have been, though, because I went on a Monday.

I think you can party at Princeton as much as you'd like to.
There is DEFINITELY plenty of it at Princeton, though not everybody chooses to partake.

From what I've heard, Yale has a more open policy towards alcohol than does Princeton. I mean, kids at Princeton definitely know how to party, but I'd say Yale has a more active social scene. And despite what others may tell you, the eating clubs do lend an air of exclusivity to the school that isn't present at Yale.

Ha... ha... ha. Don't think so. Not only are the only exclusive clubs at Yale far more exclusive and insular than anything at Princeton, but given that the vast majority of the student body goes to the clubs at will (unlike at other schools where you may need to know people to find the good parties), there is even less exclusivity here.

In addition to the foregoing comments, both Philadelphia and NYC are easy by train and students do go both places. I know some students hit the Sixers/Cavaliers (the one with the controversial call at the end) last Monday night. The train station is about a 5 minute walk from the dorms depending on which dorm and the drive to Philly is about 45 minutes.

I recently asked my S who's a junior at Princeton what surprised him most about the school now that he's a student there. His answer? "Princeton is a party school!"
