I am wondering what the parties are like at Northwesten. A lot of people have said that fraternities are pretty laid back and that they arent like the fraternities at public schools, does that mean they do not party a lot? I have a friend that goes to U of I and i have visited him a few time and you can get into bars down there when you are 19. Is Northwestern like this and does it have big parties like i hear about at U of I? Also do many kids go out and drink on weekdays or is that mostly on weekends?

I’m not a big partier, but judging by the frequency with which I hear drunk people outside my dorm, I would say that yes, people drink on weekdays as well as weekends. I don’t personally know what the frat parties are like since I don’t go looking for them, but I know they do have parties there frequently. If drinking isn’t your thing, there are definitely other things to do, and it is very possible to have a good social life that doesn’t involve drinking.

Hope this helped!

Same as any other school…

i’m with sbrownell.

but honestly, you’ll find the parties if you look for them. If you dont want them, they’re easy to avoid.

hey im a freshman at nu and the partying is awesome. before school started i visited a friend at a state school and the parties sucked, i had to pay 5 bucks to get into a frat and it got busted in 5 minutes. if you live on north campus (if you dont live in bobb youll regret it) youll have no problem partying as much as you want. i go out probably 4 nights a week. typical week: monday keg(if oyu have a napkin saying your 21 youll get in) wednesday mcfaddens (same thing) thursday deuce friday frat saturday frat. thats 5 days that there is always something going on. also, you never need to pay for alcohol because the frats are rushing oyu. they legit have tons of alcohol at their parties and pregames and most of the time will pay for your transportation to a bar and drinks at the bar(if they liek you). pm me if oyu want more info, but you wont be disappointed.

^ lol.

10char

jchen, have fun in winter with Pike, but be aware things become a LOT different after fall.

I’ve been an on-and-off partier… it’s pretty easy as long as you’re disciplined, so yes you can definitely be a partier if you want or not if you don’t.

While we’re vaguely on the same topic, how’s the drug scene at NU?

JChen, as someone who is in a fraternity, I’ll clue in: your parties end Winter Quarter.

Freshmen males get fall quarter to rush a fraternity and then once you drop your bid, you are in the house. That means the freshmen are now expected to rush other people. Frat rush works almost identically to college admissions. We seek you out, you have your offers, you pick which is best for you, and then it’s all business moving forward.

If you joined a fraternity that only offers you alcohol, then you will be hazed heavily and your greek experience will center around booze and girls. If you joined a fraternity that had alcohol but because they, literally and socially, offered other things, then the hazing will be minimal and your greek experience will be a bit more well-rounded.

Some houses don’t haze at all- mine doesn’t.
