Pass/Fail and Graduate School

My daughter doesn't come on CC, but I have a question that we are debating and I would appreciate some advice if possible. She is taking a rather difficult elective as a prerequisite for an upcoming class, and I told her that she should take it pass/fail so she wouldn't have to worry about the grade so much. She thinks that doing so would look bad for graduate school admissions. She has a great GPA and is doing very well, and will be applying to rather selective graduate programs next year.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

It is S/U not P/F - satisfactory/unsatisfactory. She must get a C-. from what I have read/heard, she should be fine doing it this way once or twice if needed and it won’t hurt.

For grad school, it’s most important to get good grades in classes relevant to your intended program of study. So if the pre-req course is more relevant, take that for a letter grade, whereas if the course she’s preparing for is more relevant, I think it’s fine to take the current course S/U and just make sure she does well in the future class.

Thanks for the help!
