<p>Does taking classes pass/fail negatively affect your application or does it not really matter at all. The class that I'm taking pass/fail is Jazz Band, because its not an academic class, and I want to have a higher GPA.</p>
<p>Usually, its a better idea not to take a class pass fail in HS. Some colleges count a pass as a C. :/</p>

<p>I was a TA (my school doesn't allow free periods that aren't in first or sixth period) for two years. At my school, they are pass/fail classes and don't affect GPA. In fact, most kids think of it as a study hall (which is basically the same as a free period, most students spend their free periods in the library studying).</p>
<p>Jazz band is a nice non-academic class. It shouldn't make your transcript seem bad, as long as there's a healthy number of academic classes on it.</p>
