Pass/Fail Dual-credit Course or take the C?

Hello!

I just found out that taking a dual-credit course pass/fail is something you can do and am seriously considering it. I have a C in my Calculus I class and I doubt it will go up because our grades are based entirely on exams. I’m a senior and am taking this Calc course as an extra math credit (I have all my required credits for graduation). Should I switch to pass/fail or keep the C? Which one will look better to colleges on my transcript?

Will you need to have calculus with a letter grade in college for your major (or other college requirements specifying a letter grade)?

Will you need to have calculus with a letter grade in college for professional school (e.g. medical school)?

If both answers are “no”, then passed/not-passed may be a better choice.

If you need a letter grade in college for your major, a C is likely to transfer for subject credit, but a P is less likely to transfer for subject credit.

If you need a letter grade in college for professional school, a C will be bad, but repeating either a C or a P would also be bad.

I’m going into colleges as a humanities major (1. Film or 2/3. International Relations/history). The only graduate school I’ll be going to is for a masters in film if I want to pursue it further. All the schools I’m applying to now say that precalculus/calculus level math is recommended but not required. If they see the pass/fail on my transcript for Calculus would that satisfy the requirement?

You will have to check each college to see if a transfer course with a P will satisfy the requirement. Different colleges may have different policies. (Obviously, an NP will not satisfy or give any credit.)

What if I choose to not transfer the credit over? Is that even possible?

You cannot chose to transfer the credit over. If it is a college transferable course, it will have to be reported. There is a Clearinghouse that will have a record of any college course taken.
