Pass/Fail Pre-Cal over Summer

Hey, All.

My sister is a sophomore in high school and wants to take Pre-Calculus over the summer so she can take Calculus during her junior year.

She's probably going to be attending an in-state school so no Harvard or anything like that. Right now, she has an two options for Pre-Cal over the summer: pass/fail or for a "grade". Pass/fail doesn't touch her GPA and just gives her the credit.

My question is: does pass/fail look bad on a high school transcript? Even if it's a summer class and even if she's doing it to get ahead (it's not remedial)? She'll probably be applying to schools in Texas: SMU, TCU, UT Austin, etc. She's also in the top 10% (though I think the rule has changed to top 8.75% or something).

thanks.

A P can realistically only be viewed as a C. So if your sister thinks she can get a better grade, she should consider taking it for a grade, if not, take it P/F.

Since she’ll be taking Calc next year, if she gets a good grade in it, that should override a P in preCalc.
