Hello All,

I'm considering transfering to Swarthmore and I'm mildly concerned about the steep grade deflation. Does anyone know if transfer students are graded P/F during their first semester at Swarthmore?

Thanks-

The P/F semester is for freshman, and does not apply to transfer students.

If you have done well enough at your present college to be accepted to Swarthmore, I would think that you would be able to handle graded courses during your first semester at Swarthmore.

There has been no grade deflation at Swarthmore, steep or otherwise. The average GPA is somewhere in the B+ range, a 3.25 the last time it was published a few years ago.

There aren't many 4.0s at Swarthmore, but it's not like the whole school is killing themselves trying to eek out a "C".

My general impression is that a lot of people hover in the B/B+ range fairly comfortably, with a few A-s, and not all that many B-s...and very few As.
