What do you all think of taking classes pass/fail?

It can't be done at UMich for classes for a chosen major/minor, the fourth term of a language course, and I'm not sure if it can be used for specific distribution requirements, but I know it can be used for general elective credit. Up to 30 credits can be taken as pass/fail.

Say you're someone who is majoring in Biology, and you're taking a History course because it interests you and it fulfills some elective credit. But, you want to focus more on your major without the History course causing a hit to your GPA. What are the disadvantages of taking the History course as a pass/fail?
