Pass/Fail

Can someone explain how taking classes pass/fail works, also, why would you do it? Can you do it with classes taken at other colleges, is there a maximum?

My experience is ancient history, but I took an art history course under pass/fail. It was just something I took for fun and didn’t want to stress much about the grade. I was very glad, because it was NOT an easy course! But I don’t remember how it counted or affected my overall GPA. I’m sorry!

This is language about UA’s policy: http://courseleaf.ua.edu/introduction/academicpolicies/gradesandgradepoints/#passfailoptiontext</a>
Students opt for pass/fail for a variety of reasons, primarily to protect a GPA from a class whose grade might lower it.
