How do pass/fail classes factor into GPA?

Quite simply, they don't. They play no part in calculating your GPA.

you only get credits for that class--no GPA. you do have to get a c- or above though to pass.

wonderful, gracias.

though if you decide to apply to grad schools, some recalculate P/F into your GPA and they assume a P is a C-... but as far as USC is concerned, a P gives you credit and does not impact your GPA in any way.

Really? I don't know about that...

well, my legal writing prof told us that a few law schools do that....others do so when there's more than 2 courses taken P/F...basically they don't want people taking lots of courses P/F in order to maintain a higher GPA
Granted, if you take a bunch of 2 unit course P/F then I don't think they'd care b/c those are usually fun classes.
So yeah, if you are thinking about law schools, don't take too many P/F courses, though 1-2 should be okay
