My academic advisors said it was a good idea to take P/NP classes for the classes that are used to fulfill graduation requirements (ie non pre-med classes and non upper division), because then you could focus more on your premed and major classes and get a higher GPA in those to give you a better shot at getting into medical school. is this true? do med schools care if you take those classes as pass/no pass?

no big deal to do it once or twice, but don't make it a habit. if the class has a graded option, take that over p/np

BB's advice makes sense to me. You can take a P/NP class, but it strikes me as a bad idea to take a P/NP option in a class that could be graded.

One more thing. Many students find non-premed classes easier than premed classes. This allows them to try to keep their total GPA higher. Now, granted, your BCPM GPA matters a great deal and non-science classes won't count for that; but your total GPA matters, too.

P/NP doesn't help that at all.
