Pass/No Pass for Critical Thinking English?

There is one more English course I have to do in order to fulfill IGETC.

I’ve got an A on the other English course.

However, I am not very confident in doing well on Critical Thinking English (103 in LACC)

Would you guys recommend doing a P/NP for English course?
Or do I look less competitive and therefore risk my chance of getting into UCLA?

Thank you very much

If you can get an A in that English class, you can get an A in this one.

I don’t think it’ll matter if you go p/np. But I may be wrong. Talk to your counselor.

Thanks @Cayton
I’ll talk to my counselor about it on monday.
English courses haunt me!

English requirements grades are taken very seriously. Anything above a B is fine, but there are a number of top UCs that are upfront about the fact that they aren’t even fond of B minuses in R&C courses. Even if you can satisfy the requirement with a p/np class, I would not recommend it.

Choose your professor wisely and you will be fine. Critical thinking courses can actually be very fun as the essays tend to be argumentative rather than analyzing a required reading to death or obsessive over grammatical rules.

You can P/NP it if you want. But it’s good to take that class seriously - it helps your critical thinking skills.

Any IGETC course can be taken P/NP, unless it’s for a major req, naturally.

@TheVisionary Yeah, thank you for your advice.
The professor, well, she has some good reviews (all positive) and she is the department chair of English department.
It’s more like myself to blame. I’m sure.

@goldencub And that’s the reason why I chose Critical Thinking over another composition course. However, when I looked over the syllabus it seemed really tough. I’m pretty sure I’ll learn critical thinking skills without the pressure of getting an A.
I have until June 24th to decide whether I should file for P/NP…
Thank you for your reply

I’m also applying for UCLA but as an EE major. On my assist report English is listed, so I need to take it for a letter grade. Your situation might be different, but I would take it for a letter grade just in case.

@HeardWell I heard well. I want to take it as a letter grade… But, I’m worried about it. Getting a B would ruin my 4.0 GPA haha

I believe English (and the math) must be taken for a letter grade. Anyway, under any conditions, I would urge you not to go the P/NP route with English.

Deanza notes letter grade: https://www.deanza.edu/faculty/nickeldon/igetc.html

@Ohm888 Right, I should take it for a letter grade. Going for a letter grade!!!
