This quarter i am taking physics 4B at a CC and i fear i will be getting a C again which is what i got for 4A. So i was wondering if it matters to ucsd if i change my 4B class to pass or no pass, or even all 4 of my classes im taking this quarter since i got into ucsd already and my gpa is so close to the 3.0 line, so i would rather not risk it if i dont have to. I also havent taken any classes as pass/ no pass so far so i should be under the 21 unit max thing they have.

Effectively speaking, as far as any UC campus is concerned, receiving a P/NP/CR/NC or any variant is as if you had not taken the class at all. This is especially true for TAG agreements, as you must take all courses required per your agreement for a letter grade. I should imagine that if you are taking a physics sequence, it is required for your major, and therefore it is better to take the ‘C’ than convert to P/NP. Doing so will essentially render you ineligible for the major, and complicate your future class schedules since your school may not allow you to retake the class without petitioning, etc. Perhaps the only exception to this point of view would be if the grade was due to credit by examination (in which case it would only be acceptable for an elective class, not a prerequisite/requirement) – certainly this is not the case for you.

I’m taking spanish this year to prepare for the 4th quarter foreign language requirement at Revelle College in UCSD. It should be okay to take that p/np, right?

And where did you get this info Taylor?

I have seen numerous sources say that a certain amount of classes may be taken Pass/No Pass…especially if the P/NP is equivilant to a C or better (not C-)

Sorry - I guess I said that a little too generally, but it was only after I read the fact that the OP wanted to do it for a physics course, and especially when I noticed the OP was taking a sequence. Also, I suppose it once again reaffirms the fact that you can never take information passed from CCC advisers too seriously!

It is true that you can take a certain number of units for P/NP credit for some GE classes satisfying IGETC, and some UC requirements like foreign language. But it is, in general, not possible to do it for major preparation.

Thanks for pointing that out though by the way! I will make the change to my OP.

Edit: Guess you can’t edit your posts after a certain amount of time, oh well. Good luck!
