Pass/No Passing a Class

Hey guys! I’m applying to transfer from a CCC for the next school year!

I’m a bit confused on the whole P/NP thing and would like some input. I’m a linguistics major and my target is UCLA. There’s no pre-reqs for any of the UC campuses’ linguistic majors & I already satisfy the IGETC’s language requirement.

Would it look bad if I P/NP my second term language for this quarter? I won’t do it for the third term, but I just want to protect my GPA for this coming semester. I’m taking stats, English, and social psychology while also working 6 hours over at UCSF and 6 hours as a private tutor.

I’ve also P/NP two course (Calculus w Analytical Geometry & Chemistry III) before because that’s when I was a Neurobiology major. But that was back when I was at University of Washington (Transferred back after my first year). I will have 75 units by the end of this semester. My GPA was a 3.75 at UW and a 4.0 at my CCC.

Not sure if any of this background info will help, but just wanted some input on whether or not P/NP linguistics will hurt my chances

I’m not sure about how P/NP will affect you, but I recommend you review these links about transfer requirements for Linguistics at UCLA. FWIW I don’t think taking language P/NP is a good idea as a linguistics major.

You can take any IGETC course P/NP. The only issue would be if it is required for your major and I would think language might be required for linguistics – or, in any case, it is closely related, so I think it would look better to take for a letter grade.

I see the above poster said the same thing.
