so i’ve been looking at a few classes and i’m confused when they say like 5 spots are available but 40 are waiting. why is there even a waitlist if there are 5 spots available? if i sign up for that class will i take the available spot or be on the waitlist???

Sometimes they will reserve spots for majors, so that may be the case in the class you are looking at. There may be 5 spots left for people who are majors in that subject that were not taken, so during open registration they will become available to anyone. Probably the first 5 people on the waitlist will be automatically enrolled. It’s also possible that 5 people dropped the class and there are now 5 openings but PASS just hasn’t updated itself yet, in which case the first 5 people on the waitlist will also get the spots. If you sign up, I am almost positive you will be put on the waitlist.

that is kind of a stupid system…its a required class for my major but since i’m a liberal studies major and i’m not a geography major (the class is geography) im not one of those few that have a spot waiting for them. how will i know if a class of mine that i’m looking at is reserved for my major? does that mean only liberal studies classes are held for me, no other subjects even though they might be a major required course?
