When Dr. John Barry Talley takes his bow at the conclusion of Sunday's performance of Handel's "Messiah," the Naval Academy music director will hand over his baton to a new director of choral activities, Dr. Aaron Smith, and a 35-year career will come to an end....

I am amazed at the amount of performing arts that USNA has. My Plebe left for the Academy with only 1 high school year of Show Choir under her belt....a kid who told me she 'wasn't doing music' when she was 8 years old - due to the fact that her 4 older siblings were heavily involved in every kind of musical activity up and down our very large state of CA and she was carted to everything.

NOw she is at USNA and is:
singing in the Women's Glee Club
sang and performed in the Halloween Concert
Travelled to PA for a combined concert
sang at the football games with Glee Club
Is rehearsing for the Oklahoma spring musical
is singing in the Messiah Concert
and is
learning to play the bagpipes

So much for my 'non-musical' child! This Plebe is already doing MORE performing than 2 of my children who went to MUSIC schools for their career choice did at this point! And this is at a top premier engineering/military school!!!

You have to stand in awe at the educational opportunities a Service Academy provides for our amazing children.!!
