What’s the best way to make the waiting time between now and late March go by faster?
Obviously, focusing on school work, activities, and spending time with friends/family are some good methods. But you can’t always be doing something at all times.
I find that when I’m simply doing nothing, I end up in a stressful state of impatience, thinking about both the best and worst possible scenarios of my college decisions. I spend time hours on naviance, this site, etc, which doesn’t seem to help much. I even have dreams about college decisions, which is awful.
I assume it’s a lot easier for people who are happy with their early action schools, but many of us are like me and are either not happy with the schools they are currently accepted to, or haven’t been accepted yet.
I challenge you to come up with an answer that puts me to peace, but I doubt it’s possible, since this process is brutally stressful and the wait time is undeniably difficult to go through.
Video games-or computer games.
Books–if I find a really good series, dang time goes by fast
Other apps–try for other honors colleges or scholarships. These essays will keep you really busy.
College confidential-lol as long as you don’t browse colleges and just come here to talk/give advice, it’s a time-waster
I personally wouldn’t recommend staying on college confidential during the wait. It made me even more nervous at times, seeing so many qualified applicants. I became so attached to my early school on here that I would have been shattered if I got rejected. Move on and whatever you do, don’t count days. That makes it worse. I did everything I suggest you don’t do, and it really took a toll on me.
Focus on getting the best grades possible in your classes; avoiding senioritis and continuing to cultivate good study habits will better prepare you for whatever college you end up at!
Definitely do not go onto this site. If there’s one thing this forum is great at doing it’s making someone feel unqualified to apply anywhere other than community college. If you have to think about colleges, try doing more research so you’ll know where you might want to go once you get your acceptances. You could also apply for scholarships as they’re a huge time sink.
Scholarship applications is a great idea. Do some sleuthing on line and you will find many esoteric ones that may appeal to you. Especially look for local ones. My daughter was surprised by her success with this!
This has the advantage of being something that is working towards the thing you’re worrying about: you can feel as though you’re doing something constructive.
Code Academy
Trust me, it’s a good use of time.
I posted this at the end of holiday break. After my first day of school, I’m feeling better. my days are gonna be fairly packed leaving little time to overthink
Working out and getting in great shape may also help.
Hopefully I’m not still waiting this time next year.
Good luck
Game game and game or you may read, go on long walks, think of anything non academic related. Trust me I’m pretty impatient myself because I haven’t received my Act scores from December
