<p>Hi! It seems that colleges like "passion", but does it mean you have to be really good at something for it to be considered passion? For example, would it be considered passion if someone had been playing an instrument for all four years yet did not receive regional/state recognition?</p>
<p>To some degree. You KNOW it doesn't mean as much as if you did, but it shows dedication.</p>
<p>it depends on the competitiveness of the colleges you are considering. At most colleges, participation is a plus. As you get more selective, the bar gets higher. Some schools have a rating system where you're participation is rated based on leadership, local awards, state awards, national awards.</p>
<p>i think passion is more important than ability. passion can show what you CARE, while ability shows what you CAN. </p>
