<p>Keep in mind that 9% is still 9% and that there are probably other MIT applicants interested in aerospace that have actually done something with it before (ECs) and which probably have better grades and scores.</p>
<p>I don’t think you could count on doing something between now and when you apply to count as an EC unless you devote a ton of time to it, like doing something that OperaDad proposes. You could also try to involve your friends in the engineering club in your rocketry (or start a separate rocketry group, or start a rocketry group for an under-performing middle school in your area, etc.). I would also recommend trying to intern or at least shadow (which can lead to interning) at an engineering firm near you, if there is one. The only other thing you could really do is write a kick-ass essay.</p>
