Passion

When applying to top schools, they say to demonstrate "passion". But does that mean you have to show passion for the majors you apply for or just passion in general. Like say you show passion for biology but want to do religious studies or something else?

Well if its an academic-related subject, why would you wanna switch? If you love biology, why would you want to study anything else?

Your passion could be for many things: academic, athletic, community service, etc. And even within academic fields, you could major in one thing and show passion in another. Remember, except for a few exceptions, declared major means relatively little in college admissions (since so many students change majors once they’re in college). Also, while MV can’t seem to imagine a person having multiple and widely varied interests, I can, and am sure Adcoms can too.

My son is a bio and math major. He stated on his apps that wanted to major in biology. However, his ECs were all related to music and theater. He was accepted to some excellent colleges.
