There may be plenty of opportunities to travel with a club at USNA but in many cases, the cost is the responsibility of the Mid. In some cases, as in the case of a club sport that receives funding, the cost of travel may be partially offset. However, in a lot of cases as in the case of the Scuba Club, the Mid paid for their own spring break trips. Last year the Scuba Club went to Belize. This is another reason why money makes a great graduation gift as well as birthdays, etc.

USNAMom - I was curious as to "expenses" for club activities, you've addressed this nicely. How much of this rolls over to varsity athletics? (outside a mids personal expenses)

I am sure that varsity athletes cover travel expenses for the team. Spending money while on the road would most likely be their only expenses. Some of the club sports having expenses partially offset by funding. Much of the funding for these activities comes through the Alumni Association/Foundation. The support of these organizations is critical to the support of many activities on the Yard. There are probably many club activities that do not cost much if anything. Obviously, the cost of a diving trip with the Scuba Club could be quite expensive. Some of the club sports teams do travel far and wide and that could add some expense. There is a big variation on how much some of these activities could cost.

Athletes on varsity teams get "meal money" each day away from school, which is allowed under NCAA regulations. It's not a lot but it covers the basics.
