<p>In order to decide which finalist will receive the monetary award, does NMSC use the same application that was used for the semi round, or is there a new application and essay?</p>

<p>After being notified of semifinalist status, the student fills out an application to become a finalist. This is the only application the student files with NMSC. It will be used to decide finalist designation and the National Merit Scholarship awardees.</p>
