Past Plan II Applicants - Early Consideration

Ah ok well sounds like you have a good shot. P2 needs more men, so I hope you get in!

Well honestly I submitted one that I didn’t think was too great because my guidance counselor said I should be good and to just get it over with. I wrote it in about 3 hours on November 1.

My UT status page didn’t even state my rank, just that my rank had been received. But that looks good.

Yeah it’s gonna be kind of weird transitioning from an all boys school to Plan II, which is two-thirds women. It will be an…interesting experience.

Coed is definitely the way to go lol.

It’s not that bad, considering you’re not segregated from the rest of the university.
You have other classes too!
:P

P2 has a handful of gay guys too, my world lit class has 5 guys (of 18) and 3 of which are gay.

Oh, that’s interesting. Throughout P2 are 3/5 of the guys gay, or is it just in that one class? Every guy I know that’s done Plan II is straight that I know of (but then, all-guys Catholic isn’t exactly a breeding ground of tolerance for sexual tolerance).

Just our class; but pretty awesome nonetheless
:)

yay got in to plan 2 yesterday!! somebody needs to make a facebook group!!

prettyinpink03, when did you apply to Plan II?

i turned in my regular application before nov. 1. i put regular business as my first choice major. my honors application was turned in about a week and a half later and then my rec for the honors wasnt turned in until like dec. 12 so i am not sure when they started reviewing my application. i live in dallas, tx and i am not in top 10% of my class so i didnt get automatic acceptance. i found out i got in last thursday and i got my plan 2 letter yesterday!! good luck to you all!

Prettyinpink03 what were your stats?

top 27% of my class of 1300, 3.64 gpa, TONS of extra curriculars and leadership, great essays, 2020 on my sat-650 cr,660math, 710 writing, and a really, really great rec! and i started my own business in 11th grade and i wrote about that for my optional essay so i’m thinking that helped it a lot! i was really shocked i even got into UT and plan 2 was the best surprise ever! i think the essays really did it though because my counselor said those were some of the best she has read!

Ugh. Okay so now I’m extremely worried that I won’t get into Plan II. My SAT and ACT scores are just a little under the average requirements, I have a 4.2778 weighted GPA, I’m 37/555 in my class, I’m a National Achievement Commended Scholar, I’m an African-American female, National Honor Society co-president, good amount of volunteer and extracurricular activities, and wrote only two essays that I’m now worried weren’t good enough.

However, one of my essays dealt with the adversity I faced as a gifted African-American student from other black students and how I used the negativity I received to push me to excell in the classroom. My other essay was about my mother, since she’s the only person that has really inspired me to live my life and achieve my goals. Cliche a bit, I know, but there was no one else that fit the essay description.

Soooo, yeah I’m really worried right about now seeing as how it appears that everyone else who’s been accepted has done EXTREMELY well in a lot of areas. Sigh I’ll keep praying on it and hoping for the best.

Don’t worry, lexi
Plan II is really..weird with its admissions process.
I think they really find that unique spark that’s markedly different from everyone else…definitely not in terms of grades/SAT
Hell, I got in, so you’ll never know!
Stay optimistic!

absolutely agreed w/ bluefalcon!!

Got an acceptance letter to Plan II today. I’m really excited, it looks like an awesome program.

One question though: How intensive are the math/science requirements in Plan II? I’m in AP Calc BC, AP Physics, and AP Biology so I’m not behind in math or science by any means, and I want to continue to study math and science but I just don’t want to get bogged down with a ton of work from those fields - I’m a liberal arts man.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks.

Edit: Oh and good luck to everyone else with Plan II - I hope you get in!

Well, I feel like my second essay( the describe your situation) was better than the first although both contained vivid images and were cohesive. I painted a picture of my orchestra director in junior high and how he affected me.

You have to take Plan II Math, Plan II Biology, and Plan II Physics.
But it’s more of general knowledge…
Make sure you take Plan II Math with Starbird, and Plan II Bio with Moon Draper!

can the AP Biology test get you any hours though? and what about AP Calculus BC?

Bio and Calc yes.

If you get a 5 on AP Bio you get credit for BIO 311C and BIO 311D and thus don’t have to take any more Biology. If you get a 4 or lower you get no credit and must take Plan II Bio.

If you take BC Calc you get 8 hours credit, I can’t remember the official numbers (M 408 C & D maybe). You can then choose to take the 3rd semster of calc (408K?) or else take Plan II Math to complete the requirement.

English and Physics CANNOT receive credit, though. You must take those Plan II classes.
