My project was one of two awarded legal patenting services at a state science and engineering fair, and the patent is currently pending. Is this considered a major accomplishment for high school students, and does this have a major effect on whether or not selective colleges will admit me.
By itself no. My high stats kid with great EC and patent was rejected from Stanford and Princeton.
Firstly, congratulations!! and yes why not? Hey keep in mind it doesn’t have a MAJOR effect, your academics have to be good and you have to do other things to! But yes it WILL help your college chances. If you’re doing good in school(SAT,AP/IB classes, SAT Subjects, GPA) and if you are also involved in other activities in your school, then yes it will help.
Good Luck!
Thank You Asaltb and Ballerrina016. I’m above average but not stellar academic wise. Around a 3.5 GPA, and just top 20% of my class. I do a lot of activities that centralize around what I want to study. I’m guilty of prioritizing my activities over my studies haha.
If you’re aiming for Ivies and top 50s then you need a good ACT/SAT score because your gpa is kind of low for Ivies. But DON’T give up hopes!!! Just keep in mind that most of the kids in Ivies have a +3.8 gpa.
Asaltb, I’ll keep that in mind! Thank you for the advice! I’m aiming for Cornell’s CALS. Amazing program for sustainability science/business. If I don’t get in it’s not the end of the world. I’m an inventor i’ll just keep inventing and hope one of them will catch on eventually.
You will do great wherever you will end up. Love the attitude! Good luck.
