Patent Law

The main reason I applied to SEAS is that a patent lawyer is the career that I am considering the most. However, what type of engineering do patent lawyers usually go to, or is it just the matter of preference? To be a Pre-Law, do I need to take some prelaw classes? And lastly, how hard is to get into a good law school from SEAS? Thank you.

Perfectly reasonable, but this isn't the traditional path. Most people don't go to engineering school to be patent lawyers. They're usually people who go to engineering school to be engineers (and maybe even work as engineers) and then realize that they've had enough or that the grass is greener.

A good mix of everything. MechE, ChemE, EE, etc.

There's no such thing as a prelaw class. You can take whatever you want if you want to go to law school.

All that matters is your GPA and LSAT score.

Does columbia law give preference to SEAS or do they just just care about your performance?

If you're borderline, it could help. But GPA and LSAT are still primary.
