I'm basically an average joe Yale candidate with good stats who can get in with a lot of luck, by no means am I qualified. I have a 4.0 GPA up till junior year. I stupidly decided to take 7 APs senior year and it looks like I'm going to get 4 As, 2 Bs and a C first semester. Will I get auto-rejected if I wind up getting this C?

Nope you won’t. They have a holistic process to assess candidates.

They might think that you took too many AP classes senior year so that your application will look better.

it doesn’t mean you’re an auto reject, but it doesn’t exactly help either…
Is there any way you can get that C to even a B-? Just for the psychlogical effect since the difference btw a 79.5 and a 79.2 are minimal but it still helps…Are there any reasons you’re not doing well other then you’re overwhelmed?

to be honest it’s more of senioritis, but the course load is definitely a bit overwhelming. I’ll have to see if the final can take me to a B…

bump 10char

Why bump? The question has been answered:

A ‘C’ is bad, but not an auto reject. Try get a B, that would be better.

Pretty obvious?

If it makes you feel better I am in the exact same situation as you. I’ve had a 4.0 up till junior year and got one B. Now as a senior I’m taking 5 AP classes and will end up with 2-3 B’s.

I had perfect grades on a hard courseload except first semester of Junior year-- dropped 2 B’s and a C there. In my defense, I was suffering significant family issues. I’m hoping my otherwise stellar performance shows that they’re more of a lapse rather than “downward spiral” type thing. Remember, with enough good grades even a couple B’s can’t put more than a tenth of a point’s dent in your GPA.
