Paul Tulane Award Applicants

Has anyone received an email regarding an interview for their Paul Tulane award?? I saw someone did receive that email, but I have not. I was just wondering if anyone else got the email or if I should email my admissions counselor and ask her about it?

I was not aware that any interview was required or even conducted for the Paul Tulane. I understand it is strictly based on the 2 written essays and,of course, based on the applicant’s entire application --with only those applicants in the very top of the applicant/accepted student pool being given any real chance for the award, as it is very competitive to obtain. Are you certain that someone said they received a request for an interview for it? Maybe MaddieTulane or BarryTulane can let us know if interviews are part of the decision-making process for this award.

Pretty sure the interviews are for the Stamps scholarship.

Thank you, maybe it was for the Stamps scholarship and the person was confused.

Did stamps scholarship invitations go out already?

I thought any decisions at all did not go out until late February.

My kid applied for several of the additional merit scholarships. The interview email said the invitation was being extended because the kid had applied for a full tuition schollie at Tulane. It did not specifically mention PTA, DHS, CSF or Stamps.

@northwesty Have DHS or PTA candidates had to interview in the past? I thought that was only for Stamps. Hm.

I do not believe that DHS and PTA require or even offer interviews. My nephew is a current TU junior and a DHS recipient. He did not have an interview.

I don’t know what may have been done in prior years. Interview invite just referenced that kid had applied for a “full tuition” schollie.

Did not mention Stamps, but you don’t apply for Stamps. You only apply for DHS and PTA, and then DHS and PTA applicants are then considered for Stamps.

I did an interview for PTA, it was a phone interview but I believe it was offered because I am a finalist of some sort. It was not for stamps.

@penguin17, my daughter groaned at the prospect of the phone interview. She feels it will be awkward and impersonal. I just don’t see what the scholarship office can gain from it! Oh, I miss fallenchemist at moments like this!

@penguin17 Did the phone interview happen to be conducted by a senior at Tulane?

My son’s interview was with an alumnus. He stated the purpose was to answer my son’s questions so be prepared with a list of questions. I really don’t know the purpose. There could be many reasons, on the bubble for full tuition, a way to winnow down the applicants for Stamps nominations, vetting high numbers kids for their real interest in Tulane, or just random choices.

Mine was a phone interview with an alumni. I received an email prior saying I was offered it as “one of the highest achieving applicants,” so I think it was a positive sign, although I’m sure not everyone that interviews gets the award and people who don’t interview do get the award all the time.

The end of February can’t come soon enough! My son’s creative part of the application was a new way to use geometry (I think) to solve a particular problem. He is a total math guy and it’s probably very creative if you understand it. Do you think they’ll bring in math professors to review something like that? Or is it too far outside the box (haha)

@threebeans, I called the Admissions Office b/c my daughter signed up for the CHATS interview, and she never connected with the alumnae. The lady who answered was someone “in authority”–I can’t remember her title. She said the scholarship awards are being sent out 2/15!!
