I was admitted into tulane with a 22,000 annual scholarship. I was surprised as my stats are not very competitive (3.6 uw, 3.8 w, 32 act superscore 33, and ap classes were psychology, physics, and calculus). I would love to get an even bigger scholarship but apparently this scholarship looks at you overall. If I have really good essays do I have a chance? I don't have many extracurriculars at all. Also, suggestions on any other tulane scholarships with my stats?

I know that 50 pt scholarships are awarded, but how many people apply for it usually?

The Paul Tulane Award was new last year, so there is not really any history on how many will apply for it as it becomes more well known. I think I remember someone saying last year that there were about one thousand applicants. I know for the DHS, which is another full tuition award, there are usually about 1100-1300 applicants. No doubt some of those overlapped last year.

You should try, but to be honest your stats are at the lower end of people that would be considered to have a chance. But certainly really outstanding essays could result in an “upset” win. Just realize many others will have strong essays as well. But the only thing worse than trying and not getting it is not trying at all, at least in a case like yours where your stats are not completely out of it. Sometimes people apply with stats like 3.3 GPA and 1900 SAT, and they really don’t have a chance. That is not your situation, it is just a long shot.

As far as other scholarships, I mentioned the DHS, but everything I just said about the PTA is the same, just substituting “project” for “essay”. Then there is the Community Service Scholarship, worth up to $15,000 which can be added to your merit award. You say you don’t have many EC’s, but I am not sure if you mean community service in that. If you have decent community service experience, then try for the CSA. Otherwise I cannot think of any others. There is ROTC, but I have no idea if that is on your radar at all.

Once I’m done with the essays, how do I submit them? It said online to fill out the pt application and then attach the essays as a separate document, but I haven’t been able to find anything about where to submit them.

I’ll have to look into that.

I would think your high school would be happy to do that for you.
