i seem to be having a real problem paying attention during lecture. its more of a problem of not being able to take notes while at the same time following allowing and absorbing the information of the lecture. and if i try to stop taking notes and just listen to the lecture i tend to drift (and i dont think i have ADD or anythin). the only way i can learn is through the textbook so i find it pretty pointless going to class. anybody here have any special ways of their own to help them pay attention during lecture?

Take classes you would enjoy. As for the ones you have no choice with ... perhaps write less notes and concentrate more on what the professor is saying. That used to help me.

Just sleep. I could never stay awake during some professor's lectures no matter how hard I tried. This is a perfect oppurtunity to catch up on your sleep.

i was the same way - i couldn't keep notes and pay attention at the same time. so, i just stopped taking notes. i'm sure i still missed a few things, and it prolly cost me some points on tests here and there, but i got the general gist of it.

A lot of people at my school just don't even go to big lectures because the profs either a) post the notes online or b) dont even talk about what's on the tests. I go and find that taking notes keeps me awake, but I think not going and still doing well in the class is 100% possible.

At my college many of the professors post lecture notes or powerpoint slides online before lecture. I have found that printing these off ahead of time and taking them to class, then taking additional notes on them or on a separate page works best for me. When I try to just listen to lectures (especially in classes that aren't terribly interesting) I have a tendency to drift off (not fully to sleep, just not fully coherent) or stop paying attention. But if I try to take notes on everything that the prof says, I won't process most of what happens in lecture. Having the lecture notes serves as a backup - most of the things that are really important will be on there, so anything that I don't write down myself I will still have in my notes.
If your profs don't post lecture notes, try comparing notes with other people in your class - you won't be as frantic to write everything down, so you'll be able to focus on writing down the important parts, and hopefully you'll be able to remember more.

true...definitely gonna take ur advice guys..thanks.
