So I applied via early action and got in, and Binghamton is currently the top school on my list.

My main problem is the cost; it'll be around $33k for me since I'm coming from out of state. And I also know that Binghamton doesn't offer a whole lot of aid, especially for freshman, so I'm concerned about how much debt I may end up with.

As a computer science major I don't think I'll have much of a problem finding a good paying job to help pay off the loans, but at the same time I don't want to be buried in debt. Does anyone know if the aid Binghamton offers gets better after freshman year?

It does get better, and more recently it doesn’t start off that badly either. You do have to be aware of one thing - the financial aid award you get at first may NOT be your final award. I got a pretty ■■■■■■ financial aid package my freshman year as a first offer, but I had substantial scholarships added later. I had a $7,000/year recurring scholarship added in June, a $3,000/year recurring scholarship added in August, and I’ve received a one-year scholarship of between $1,500-$2,000 in addition to that every year since that. There definitely is aid available, and most people will tell you their awards increased over time (assuming they kept up a good GPA).

My current aid package is $17,000/year. It was originally slightly higher, but they were forced to revise it downward because I moved off campus and they were actually going to be giving me more than what it cost for me to pay for tuition + off-campus housing.

Hm, $50k is a still a bit much for me but much more manageable than $80k considering Binghamton’s starting salaries. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what they offer me and go on from there. Thanks for your help.

I’m really anxious for the Aid letter. I’m in the same boat with out of state tuition. on the C/O 2018 FB page some ppl got their scholarship letters today, but they’re on the east coast so hopefully i have one in the mail…

Ugh, all they offered me was $11k, and more than half of that are federal loans. The total cost is also apparently $36k now, so I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to be able to attend. Enrolling and expecting to get more aid is really risky since I could easily end up with close to $100k in debt after college if I don’t get anymore offers. Wonderful.

They only offered me about 6k and half of those were loans too. I submitted an updated fafsa though and im wondering if they got the right stuff. Do you guys think that 86k family income is too high to get some aid? It kinda sounds like a lot but we’re supporting an extended family in another country . . . Paying 18k still sounds sort of expensive.

We were offered $1600 scholarship and TAP, for in-state with housing, food, etc., once you take out the loans… income around 90,000. Funny though: they allotted $250 for travel in the COA, and we live 10 minutes away!!!

It’s listed along with the scholarship and the federal loans on our financial aid page. DS was accepted in January, maybe they push a rush on the fin. aid offers for the early acceptances? He was RD but sent his app in in December.

I have been accepted to Binghamton’s CS too and mines have18k in FA, $5500 are loans. I also got Purdue’s offer for cs which is my dream school, however, Purdue cost almost $43000 for a year. I dont really know much about Binghamton’s CS program, what is the average started salary? Any other experiences? Thankss @Manion71
