Paying for Business School

How do most people pay for business school with tuitions around $90k/year?

I wanted to open a 529 college savings account but I heard that it will be looked upon negatively when applying for financial aid.

Any advice?

My company paid for mine. I was blessed.

Many companies do provide some sort of tuition reimbursement plan, which is often limited. If you do your MBA part time, you may be lucky enough to have your employer help you pay for it, even if just a little. The rest, people normally fund via student loans.

I’m still applying to business school, so I’m not ‘in’ yet, but my opinion is that your options are limited - Major private loans, maybe your company pays. What I did was strange - I enlisted in the military to get the GI Bill benefits. I had a college degree, so I could have gone to OCS and have become an officer, but then I would not have the GI Bill.

Military options are as follows:

Go to OCS and become an officer. Stay in and let them pay for you to get an MBA. You have to commit to more time in the service for that, I think.

Enlist in the military. Spend 4 years doing something different. Get out, use the GI Bill benefits. Many colleges have what is called the ‘Yellow Ribbon Program’ where they waive any remainder costs for school. Also, some schools will do it on a case-by-case basis.

Another option is to enlist, then go to OCS and become an officer. I think that way, you can be an officer, but keep your GI Bill benefits. I would call to confirm that though (just don’t call a recruiter, they will not be a reliable source. Call the VA). Then get out after (I think 5 years) and go to business school.

The upper tier MBA schools are not like undergrad. There is hardly need-based financial aid. There are however, some merit aid and most MBA schools provide some aid. They charge $$$ so they give some $ as aid.
It doesn’t cost $90/yr.
