Paying for College issues.

I need help with my college payments. I'm an 18 year old with not the best GPA because I was going through a bad time my junior year of high school. I got accepted to Springfield College and I really want to go. I'm kind of on my own with this because my mom's credit is awful and my father is god knows where. My first semester amount is $4,603. I can't find one loan I can apply for. It's impossible. My family's income is less than $15,000 and my school only has a 3 month payment plan and that'll mean my mom will have to $1500 a month. I can't do that to her. I have two other siblings at home. Is there any loans that will take me even though I have no credit and my mom has bad credit? My school is not helping at all and I turned to this site to see if anyone can help me. Thank you!

Did you fill out the FAFSA and receive federal loans? When I google Springfield College, I come up with a private school with a $32K tuition so I am guessing that, if that’s the school, the $4,600 is the amount you have to come up in direct billable costs after financial aid? Would you please post your financial aid package? If you’ve exhausted federal loans, there may not be another source unless you work and earn it but we can at least look and see if there’s anywhere to cut back. Are you living at home and commuting?

Did the school award you the Federal Direct Loans? Have your mom try Federal Parent PLUS Loans?

If your mom applies for a parent PLUS loan and gets denied, you’ll be eligible for an additional $4k/year in federal student loans. That’s per year, though, not per semester, so you’re still going to be more than $5,000 short for the year. If you take a semester off and work, you can cover that . . . but then you’re going to have the same problem again each of the following years. It’s a manageable amount if you can get good summer and school-year jobs . . . but, otherwise, this just may not be affordable for you.

The cost of attendance for springfield college is ~46k

[Tuition and Fees](http://www.spfldcol.edu/resources/business-office/tuition-and-fees/index)

I’m going to guess that this student already has the Direct Loan of $5500 a year in her package. She needs an additional $9000 a year. That would mean she would have almost $15,000 a year in loans for a total of $60,000. And that would be IF she could even get that $9000 additional loans each year.

I wonder if there is a less expensive option for this student…something much more affordable.

Springfield College is an expensive private university. They do NOT guarantee to meet the full need of all accepted students. It sounds like they have given as much as they intend to give.

To the OP…you knew your financial aid package before you accepted your admissions offer. Hopefully you were accepted to a more affordable school…if so…call and ask if your admission offer is still available.

Honestly I think you should look at other schools, ones that are more…generous with their need based aid.

Look to your local community college.

Op, have you had a summer job? Do you have any money saved? If you could contribute some, maybe there wouldn’t be too much left for your mom to help you? Congrats on getting into Springfield College. You could do two years at a cc first, and work to save money. Then, for your last two years, attend Springfield, or some other school.
