Paying For College

Family income: $150k - 175k

With a twin you are actually in a very good position to get aid. Likely your expected family contribution for both students in school would be 40K or something around there.

Not unless these twins both get into schools like HYPS that give super aid.

With that income, for one child in college, the family contribution would be about $50k-60k per year. With two in college, there would be a 60/60 split at CSS Profile schools. So the family would likely be paying more than $60 per year for both students. These numbers could be a lot higher if there are assets, which likely they have with that income.

Some good schools for that with prospective pre med?

That’s easy…most schools are fine for premed.

You can get an amazing premed chem and/or Spanish major at most schools. Premed isn’t special; it’s just regular courses that other STEM students are also taking. Those classes are hard everywhere and there is “weeding” everywhere.

I don’t know how serious you are about med school. Many high school kids indicate that they’re premed, but often after the first year, either their grades aren’t high enough (weeding!) or they change their interests. Years ago, Bio professors used to say to the premed freshman, “look to the right, and look to the left. Only one of you will be applying to med school.”

There’s a few of us on College Confidential that have children in med school, and our children went to a variety of undergrads…privates, flagships, mid-tiers, LACs, etc.

Med schools do not care where you go to undergrad. They do not think that a X.X GPA from one school is better than a X.X GPA from another school.
