Hi I am a HS senior i recently got accepted at Cazenovia College and they offered me a 15,500 dollar scholarship renewable for four years(8 Semesters). According to the National Center for Education Statistics Caz will cost around 128,379$. Besides Federal Aid and work study how can i close the gap? any scholarships or grants that would apply to me?

How much is the 4 years gaps after the Federal Aid & work study?

Pell Grant Estimate - $5,550.00
Direct Stafford Loan Estimate - $5,500.00

So i’m estimating ~55,379

Unfortunately, you cannot afford that school.

Per the Cazenovia College Web site, the approximate cost of attendance is $40,000. Even with max Pell, Stafford and the (generous) institutional grant, you’re looking at a $14,000 gap between aid and cost of attendance. It is extraordinarily unlikely that you would be able to find ~$50,000 worth of outside scholarships over the next four years. That school simply costs too much money for your financial situation.

Have you considered commuting to your local in-state public university?

You could be too late for this scholarship

Congratulations on the scholarship. That is the merit part of the award, and I am assuming that you’ve yet to get your financial aid package from them. If you are expecting a full PELL grant, that means your family has a zero EFC, am I correct? Because that is what you will need to have to get the full PELL. THe college does not guarantee to meet full need and generally doesn’t. My recommendation to you is to make sure your run that FAFSA EFC calcualtor and see that you have a zero EFC and write a letter to the Financial AId office and Admissions letting them though that you are so thrilled with the scholarship, want to go there, but with a family EFC as low as yours, it is just not possible for your family in their financial situation to borrow or come up with any funds. Tell them that youare aware that the federal government will provide up to $5550 in PELL grant and that you can borrrow $5500 in Staffords freshmen year, but that still leaves a gap of about $14K that you are going to need filled by school financial aid funds, and that you hope they can do that since Parent Loans are not a possiblity in your parent;s income bracket. You should also add that you hope that they can clearly see that asking a family at this income level for any contribution is going to create a huge hardship. So you are graterfull for the merit award which you understand is totally separate from financial aid, and that you hope that the college can find some funds in the financial aid department to make this possible.

That is the best you really can do. It’s up to the school. You should also look for other options that are affordable which means local ones.
