Paying Fraternity Dues

Hello! This is my first time posting on here but I have been reading these forums for a while now. I am an incoming freshman and I am very interested in pledging a fraternity. I was talking to a good friend from high school who is in a fraternity now and he gave me a little information about Greek life at USC. However, one thing he told me was that dues for pledges were around $4000 for the year! I told my parents and they weren't too crazy about the idea. I was wondering how some of the guys are able to afford the dues. Is there some sort of payment plan where you can pay off dues throughout the semester or do you have to have all the money upfront? I am working this summer and can help pay off some of the dues if there is a payment plan.

Thanks!

Not sure how every house does it, but when I pledged everyone paid weekly and then once you’re active you pay it all up front at the beginning of the semester. Fraternities range in due costs (I think the lowest I’ve heard was $1,100/semester and the highest was $3,000/semester). Every fraternity is pretty upfront about how much it will cost. There are usually some scholarships you can apply for from the national chapters, but the truth is the greek system is mostly made up of the richest students at USC. That’s why most can afford dues.

I think the range for a frat is more like mid $1000s to $4000 / semester range. I just know how much my boyfriend paid and it ranged from $2500 - $3500 throughout his time at USC.
