Paying the deposit and not attending in the end.

I've got a situation in which Georgia Tech will only give me a decision a full month after the deposit due date of another college. Of course, come hell or high water, I will attend Tech if offered admission. Tech is a bit of a reach for me, but I still have a good chance of getting in based on my GPA, so I want to wait for their decision. My question:

Is it wise to send a deposit to the latter and not end up going? What will I lose by doing so? Would it have any impact on applying for Grad school in the future?

You’ll likely lose your deposit, but that’s it. Schools understand that deposit deadlines vary widely for transfer students.

It sucks, but I’d make the deposit and see if you get in to GT. The other school will understand either way, it happens all the time (unfortunately).

While it’s frowned upon for fr admissions, some schools leave transfers no choice due to decision dates.

Agree that you will likely lose your deposit if you don’t attend, but it shouldn’t affect Grad school admissions as they are completely separate from UG.

Have you asked GT for an early read and the other school for an extension?

Thanks all for your replies. @entomom you can do that? I might ask them for an early read, but I don’t know how it’ll go. Thankfully I got accepted to Pitt where the deposit due date is a bit later.

You can explain your situation and ask, it won’t hurt and they may do it for you.
