For those parents paying tuition with the USC payment plan on a credit card for the sole purpose of collecting points/cashback/etc. If you have a Chase Freedom card, consider enrolling in their current promotion, where they will kick in 3% cold hard cashback for anything you spend over $1500 through 3/31 in four categories. The most relevant to parents in this forum is the education category. Assuming that you have $12k or so left on your balance, and you prepay all of it by 3/31 with your Chase Freedom card, you are looking at at cool $315 in cashback, as opposed to the $100 you would get with practically every other card. This will not make the payment of the remaining $12k hurt any less, but at least you can now afford to get drunk and try to drown the sorrow :-) YMMV

You think that chase promotion where they randomly pick up the tab for something would work on USC tuition? That would be epic.

It is not random. They just pay extra cashback through 3/31 for spending in a few categories. Education seems to be one of them. I put a small payment for USC on my Chase card and called them to ask if this payment qualifies, and they responded affirmatively.

We are not talking a lot of money, $300 extra for spring semester, but why leave it on the table if you are paying anyway. Some of the details are here
