You should consider asking a professor or department chair in business department for his/her suggestion and about what type of computer is preferred.

That said, I'm sure both would perform fine in regards to your specified major. It comes down to your preference.

The way I see it, is IBM thinkpad is about the best laptop you can buy quality wise. Now when Lenovo took over they have had near consistent quality and support. Though it is slowly going away. Lenovo made thinkpads for years before the buyout, but now that they are the owners, they are a but lax.

When lenovo took over, they decided to keep half of the 50 or so thinkpad engineers in Rhode island. The other half was let go, and guess where they all went. Well Apple picked them up quite quickly, they hired all 25 or so of them on the spot. So right now the best support and quality still goes to Lenovo, but Apple is not far off, if not nearly equal.

There are 3 problems with apple.

Support is expensive and they make you pay for everything, they dont give alot, and while you talk to a American alot can be desired.

The keyboards are horrible, and cont even compare to that of Lenovo.

Paying $500 extra for the same hardware is hard to swallow. But since Apple is not doing so well in sales any more, expect prices to drop.

I have to make this decision when fall rolls around. I’m probably going to buy a mac because…
~ They last longer, at least in my experience. I’ve never seen a mac screw up – I’ve only seen people not know how to use them. I’m not saying that they don’t have issues; plenty of my friends have had iPod problems, but I admire Apple’s equipment more.

~ Viruses! Now, I know that there’s lots of anti-virus software and yadda yadda ya, but I don’t want to deal with all that junk if I don’t have to.

~ They just look cooler :)

~ I love the toolbar thing, whatever it’s called… a finder? It’s been a while since I’ve had one.

As long as the Mac has MS Word/Excel and Firefox, then I’m all set. The only problem that I’ll have with it is when I plug stuff into the Macbook and am hoping that the Mac recognizes it or whatever. Besides from that… yeah, Mac > PC

as for them lasting longer, they may have better software, but hardware wise they are made up of the same parts by the same companies, and assembled by the 2-3 companies who do such. Most laptops are pretty similar in parts. Most Mac stuff is made by Asus, though some of it is not.
