I saw this question on the Pton forum. I'm interested in sports, but I would still like to know if Yale requires physical education as a graduation requirement. PE has always annoyed me lol.

We have mandatory PE every day here in Illinois. I'm looking forward to NOT having it.

I think Yale's only graduation requirements are the generic distribution requirements, the language proficiency requirement, and (not sure about this one) a writing proficiency requirement...I haven't heard anything about PE (thank god, I hate gym too).

Colleges usually have really cool PE classes. Its actually something that I'm looking forward to. In high school and middle school I never took PE b/c of some physical limitations, but most colleges offer Yoga, dance classes, pilates, and other interesting classes.

Lindsey...so are u saying Y does require PE? LOL...selia: yeah...let's hope we will never have to have PE ever again!

I have no idea. If I get accepted, I'll find out and let you know.

Yale does not require PE, as far as I know. (If you look in the Ultimate College Guide - the huge companion book to the US News ranking magazine - it has a listing of requirements. For physical education, it says "No.")

Vivaldi: thanks! yes! lol

I know! I'm really excited about this; some of the other schools I was considering (before last week, that is) required PE classes and swim tests (eek!). Now I don't have to worry about dumb phys ed. - although I haven't had to take it in school for two years now (I took it during the summer to free up periods for extra classes).

Oh, and if you're interested, even mildly, in sports, that's what intermurals are for. I'm sure that by this time next year, we will have attended our fair share of hotly-contested water polo games. ;)

This is great! This would have been my only hesitation about Yale if PE were a requirement. LOL
