PEA Chances

I currently a sophomore at a public high school in Iowa. I have just missed the deadline to apply to Exeter for my Junior year, although I have been thinking about applying for a long time. I was wondering how good my chances would be to get accepted to Exeter for my senior year, though I figure they will be pretty slim. Here’s some things about me:

96 percentile SSAT (took it when I wanted to apply for freshman year then decided not to)
1380 PSAT
3.6 Unweighted GPA
4 Honors classes fresh/soph because AP’s are not offered until Senior Year at my school

Extra Curricular

State Speech Freshman and Sophomore year --Improvisation
Scholastic Art and Writing Award key winner- Freshman
JV Soccer
Model UN Member
Sophomore Leadership
Women’s Leadership
History Club Member
Debate Team
Equestrian
Student Senate Secretary
Newspaper Assistant Editor
And I started a Literary Magazine at my school!

I am not getting the level of education I desire at my school, and while I know Exeter would be hard if I did accepted, I want to take my education to the next level. This is not fake at all.

Getting into Exeter as a transfer is not easy. Exeter is not need blind and if you need Financial aid, it will be more difficult. Only a handful of slots open up each year. I’m not even sure they accept new 12th graders. Did you consider repeating 11th? That way you could stay for 2 years?

Also you have to consider the fact that going to Exeter may or may not help your college ambitions. It might be harder to get into a top college.

They do accept 12th year students, but repeating 11th is a good idea that I haven’t thought about. I didn’t know that would be an option. I’m just tired of my current school not setting me up for success, and I would rather face an extreme challenge like Exeter or another prep school than face no challenge at all. Hopefully if I do end up applying for one of those few spots, the admissions office will see that. Thank you for the reply!
