My daughter is applying to 5 top tier boarding schools and we very recently received an email from the heads of FA at PEA (her first choice) and Deerfield asking us whether we had submitted her SSS tax forms from last year directly to SSS, and could we send along a hard copy of these as well as our W2s immediately to their office directly. Is anyone else getting these emails from FA or are we reading too much into this as a "good sign?" I know she interviews well, high SSATS,goes to a private girls school now (honors track) and does well in school with lots of ECs- but she is very nervous now, and I don't want to put much into this if it means nothing, yet... Thanks!

SSS is VERY behind on processing so FA offices have been asking for copies as well.

Thanks for the speedy reply- I guess my question is why would they be bothering to contact us about forms if they weren’t putting together a package? That’s how my daughter’s current school manages these things. It seems as though with the tonnage of work these people do they wouldn’t be looking for such things without a reason.

I’d say you are right in taking it as likely good sign. It’s hard to imagine they are checking FA files of all thousands of apps at this point. Good luck!

It’s great that they are working up the numbers. I would assume that means they want her. The second part is, will they still want her when they see how much she needs? Don’t mean to be a downer, but I’m sure it happens. I don’t see how the admissions committee could predict the FA budget at the same time they are making decisions. But, what do I know?

stbarths,

It’s not all or nothing with FA. If they want her they will offer aid. How much they offer ( with schools as wealthy as PEA and DA) will probably be enough to meet your needs. Good luck!

If you are as optimistic as I am (not that I was at the time my child applied), then you’d believe that they are ready to make offers to you - they just need a few details to finalize the offer in terms of the amount of aid to offer. We’ll see on March 10 if this is the case.

Thanks for posting this. We have similar experience. We wanted to assume that the aggressive pursuit of FA materials was a sign that they’re planning an offer, but all this seems so mysterious once the app goes in, who knows. Good luck!

Last year we had three schools ask for FA clarifications in the last few days and d was accepted to all three.

Makes sense. The requests for info came to us about 2/10 - so much earlier. We’ll see…
