Peabody Acceptance Rate

Hi!

I have been doing some research leading up to auditions and I found some pretty dated threads that were saying Peabody's acceptance rate is pretty high (somewhere around 45% for voice majors). Are these numbers still correct? I am just trying to find some "safety" schools (all RELATIVE of course) and this might be a good one?

No conservatory should be considered a safety. From Peabody’s website:

If you note the qualifications of the statements, you have to pass the pre-screen to even enter the process and they don’t indicate how many voice students do not make it through that process. DD was the only one from her HS over several years who tried and made it. In the end they were not very generous with merit scholarships so they are by no means a financial safety.

The acceptance rates for sopranos will not be the same as for others because the applicant pool is greater. Call them and ask what their acceptance rate in voice, especially sopranos, was last year. They will tell you. They are very friendly. We found most schools very up front with their general stats of how many applied, were accepted and attended.

I made the call to their admissions office last year for voice stats. The acceptance rate inluding prescreening for voice is roughly 30-35% every year. Sooo probably not a safety. I did have the same experience with merit aid that Singersmom07 had with her D. Peabody just doesn’t have much scholarship money to offer.
