Peabody has a relationship with JHU which allows Peabody students to take classes at Johns Hopkins. The shuttle ride between the campuses has been advertised as between 20 minutes and 40 minutes by various sources. Peabody students can get a minor at JHU and take other academic classes there.

But how easy is this to do, logistically? Does anyone know anyone who actually travels back and forth between these campuses on a regular basis? Or does being a student at Peabody essentially mean being a student at a standalone conservatory?

I have read the website; just curious what the reality is.

A friend of my daughter’s, her first private lesson teacher actually, got a triple degree at Peabody/JHU. He is now finishing his masters in performance. He started out studying as a double performance major on two instruments, plus getting a degree in neuroscience at JHU. After a year he decided the two instruments were too much and dropped one of them, but got degrees in both neuroscience and his major instrument. After about two years he added music education, which took him an additional semester to do. He was very busy, but with three degrees who wouldn’t be.

Admittedly I only rarely travel this route during rush hour and others’ experience may be different, but I can’t imagine the trip from Peabody to the JHU Homewood campus taking more than 20 minutes. I routinely make it from Locust Point to Hopkins in 15 minutes and that is a couple of miles farther and passing Peabody on the way.

Thank you, woodwinds and dobiemama!
