Peabody Institute for voice?

I was told to repost this:
Hi I'm new here. I'm going to be a junior next year, and I'm obviously thinking about college. I'm a singer and have been in my All-state chorus, and I'm going to continue vocal studies in college. I was wondering how good is the Peabody Institute at John Hopkins for voice? I did some research, and Ah Young Hong, one of the professors, seems pretty good, but I haven't been able to find any audio or video of Peabody's choirs or operas. Woud the Institue be a good choice for a singer? If not, what are some great, academic schools that are hard to get into that have good vocal programs? (Or at least a joint program with a conservatory)
These are the ones I know of:
Columbia/Julliard
Harvard/NEC
UPenn/Curtis

However, I don't think the Ivy League is right for me.
*I'm planning on double majoring in music + a non-music field.

The three you name are the among toughest admits audition wise for even the most talented. Additionally the parameters of the the cross registration at the named academic institutions requires dual acceptance, and these are among the top academic institutions with historically low admit rates and extraordinary applicant pools. These combined programs typically admit 5-12 a year, and each has its benefits, drawbacks, nuances, and logistical issues.

Without knowing your level of talent musically and academically, these may or may not be under your consideration.

Start from the beginning. Read the thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/258796-so-you-want-music-major-one-familys-experience.html</a>

Detailing your training, experiences musically, as well as your academic stats can help others to suggest potential programs that might work. Environment, school size, location, financial factors are important considerations.

Hopkins/Peabody, Rice, Oberlin, Rochester/Eastman among others are typically among the list in compiling top musical training and high level academics.

I won’t speak to the strength of vocal programs or studios/teachers, as there are others far more qualified and experienced.

There’s plenty of places to look and much info is here. Most are happy to help.

Peabody is definitely up there on the list of top undergraduate vocal performance programs. Of course, I am a little biased…since I’ll be a freshman vocal performance major there next year. :)

There are quite a few Peabody people on this message board. If you have any specific questions about the program, feel free to post them!

Peabody is a high level conservatory for voice. They require a pre-screening for all voice applicants. Be sure to read the part of their web site that discusses double majors.
Beyond your chorus, have you been taking any private lessons? If not, now is the time to find a good private voice teacher and have them assess where you are and help you get ready to apply to programs that suit your needs. Going into your Junior year is an excellent time to establish this relationship.
